THANKS FOR ANOTHER WONDERFUL MASTER”S MEAL

It was about 12:10 p.m. when the 1st guest arrived. Darron Morgan was helping unload a car. The guest was a little frail, questioning and showing an eager friendliness. She showed Darron an article about the availability of a holiday meal and wanted to know if she arrived at the right place. She explained she was a widow and things were extremely meager for her right now and she could be with other people. She was wearing 2 thin coats and was able to receive a new one to replace what she was wearing. She left smiling very broadly and assured us she would be back on time for the meal. We thank Mrs. McCully for blessing us with her presence and spirit.

The event began with an energetic chapel service with Sandra Gillette providing the music and thee worship conducted by Pastor Juancho. It was inspiring to see the chapel full and people glad to have the opportunity to be there.

There was no question that this was going to be a super experience. We had 380 guests! This year there were more seniors, more families and more physically challenged. There was a double setting in the fellowship Hall and tables were set up in the narthex and area outside the office. Meals were sent to the home bound and many guests took home additional meals. More may have been served but the food ran out. A big thank you to all who donated food.

Each guest received a gift bag with candy, pencils, information about Wesley and a Clementine in it. Sunday school children from Wesley and Bethany of Fox Valley Church decorated lunch bags as our gift bags. Pat Tattersall, her son and Nancy Garbe added red yarn to make them more festive.

Wesley Project WARM provided 65 warm winter coats, plus hats, gloves and clothing for our guests. The Shoes of the Fisherman provided shoes for many guests as well.

We were blessed with many volunteers and also the participation of our sister churches and their pastors. Pastor Alka of Bethany of Fox Valley UMC and Pastor David of 4th St. UMC were right there on the serving line. Fourth St. also provided a van and 2 drivers to transport guests and deliver meals to the homebound.
Enough cannot be said for the extension of energy and happy cooperation of those who worked so diligently to bless Wesley’s 380 guests. There were so many volunteers whose names won’t fit in this small space but the Outreach Team is appreciative and so thankful for all that helped make this Master’s meal an outstanding success.
